New fathers can get new baby depression too

21 February 2017

Depression symptoms among men before and after the birth of their children were identified in recent research using data from the Growing Up in New Zealand longitudinal study.

The research found that expectant fathers were at risk if they felt stressed or were in poor health. Elevated depression symptoms following their child’s birth were linked to social and relationship problems. The study is led by the University of Auckland, with Crown funding for the core study and data collection managed by Superu.
