Research Summary

Research has identified land use regulations (the rules that determine what can be built where) as a key driver of house price rises in the United States. This is a summary of the full report, which summarises a similar New Zealand investigation into the connection between land use regulation, the supply of houses and prices.

This report was commissioned at the request of the Minister of Finance as part of the Ministerial Social Sector Research Fund, which is used to respond to research and evaluation questions from Ministers.
